Adrian Robinson’s Death Ruled Suicide By Hanging

Former Temple Owls, Pittsburgh Steelers and Denver Broncos linebacker Adrian Robinson died on /4/16 at the age of 25. Authorities in Philadelphia have ruled his death as suicide by hanging.

Adrian Robinson’s death has been ruled suicide by hanging. 

This was what the Philadelphia medical examiner’s office told The Denver Post on /4/18. They did not give any further details on the death of the former Temple Owls and NFL linebacker.

Robinson recently signed with the Canadian Footbal League’s (CFL) Hamilton Tiger-Cats, who announced his death on Sunday, per ESPN. He was 25 years old.

PennLive.com’s Eric F. Epler describes Robinson as “among the most ferocious defenders to pass through the Mid-Penn Conference.” When he suited up for the Owls, he finished with 156 tackles and 22.5 sacks. 

As a sophomore in 2009, Robinson won the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Year award, per PennLive.com. 

Despite going undrafted in 2012, he told The Patriot-News hard work would help him make it to the NFL:

“No one wants to be told that they are not good enough to be drafted. Of course, it always motivates you are being told you are not good enough. I told myself to work every day and take it one day at a time.”

Robinson would eventually make the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 53-man roster that year. He would play for four teams — the Philadelphia Eagles, Denver Broncos, San Diego Chargers and Washington Redskins — the next two years, per PennLive.com.

Robinson played mostly on special teams with the Broncos. His untimely death is the third for a Broncos player before his 25th birthday within the last eight years, per 9News Broncos Insider (via USA Today) Mike Klis. 

Cornerback Darrent Williams was murdered in a drive-by shooting on Jan. 1, 2007, running back Damien Nash died of cardiac-related causes on Feb. 24, 2007 and wide receiver Kenny McKinley committed suicide via a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Sept. 20, 2010, per Klis.

 Temple Owls head football coach Matt Rhule issued a statement on Robinson’s passing, per PennLive.com:

“The Temple football program lost a friend, brother and a wonderful young man today. Adrian Robinson was one of the greatest competitors I ever had the pleasure of coaching and I know he was an even better teammate.

My thoughts are with the family of Adrian Robinson during this difficult time. Very sad that he passed away at such a young age.— Mike Tomlin (@CoachTomlin) /4/18, 2015

“I first met Adrian as an 18-year-old high school senior. I was so proud to see him back at Temple this spring finishing his degree and being a loving father to his new daughter. He will always be a part of me and will always be a part of this program.” 

Symmetry, the agency which represented Robinson, posted a Facebook message (via The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Marc Narducci) on Monday regarding his death:

“Adrian was a beloved father, son, brother, friend and teammate. We ask that you please respect his family’s privacy during this difficult time, and especially keep his daughter Avery Marie in your prayers.” 

Robinson’s brother, Averee Robinson, will be a junior defensive lineman for the Owls this coming NCAA season, per Narducci. 

Adrian Robinson recorded three tackles with the Broncos during the 2013 NFL season, per ESPN stats.
