Alabama Shakes the rock band lands the number one spot on the Billboard 200 chart!

The rock genre band Alabama Shakes gains the first spot on the Billboard 200 Chart for the first time. The band’s new album ‘Sound & Color’ landed on the top of the chart after its recent release.

The new album set was released on the 21st of April by ATO records. According to Nielsen Music the album has since then moved up about 97000 units in the Billboard 200 chart at the end of the April 26th week.

Albums are ranked on the Billboard 200 Chart based on a multi-metric consumption basis. The multi-metric consumption consists of the statistics such as the traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA) of any new album.

‘Sound & Color’ sold about 91000 copies by traditional album sales in one of the best album sale weeks for the band ever and the bulk of the sales gained the album units necessary for going to the top spot on the billboard 200 Chart.

The latest album by Alabama Shakes also featured on the number 1 spot of the Top Album Sales chart and its single ‘Don’t Wanna Fight’ has held the No. 2 slot on the Adult Alternative chart for the last 6 weeks.

The first album by Alabama Shakes was released in 2010 and was entitled ‘Boys & Girls’. The album had held the number 6 position on the Billboard 200 Chart but a year after its release in 2013 after having sold a total of 74400 albums.

Although the album failed to score the top spot on the Billboard 200 Chart, it did release the number 1 single ‘Hold On’ which gained the highest spot on Adult Alternative Songs airplay chart in 2013. The track also won a Grammy Award later in the nomination for the best rock performance.
