Samsung and other Google partner had to come up with their own fingerprint authentication to match the Apple iPhone. Now Google is rumored to make this native in Android M.
Android M (Marshmallow?) is likely be unveiled at the Google I/O 2015 developer conference starting later this week. Android 6.0 will include according to a source of Buzzfeed native fingerprint authentication. While this is not big news for Android users, it will be making Google’s partners including Samsung happy. So far Samsung and others had to come up with their own fingerprint authentication solution. Android M is supposed to offer this functionality now as core feature.
Buzzfeed’s report is void of details. The report only says that Google will announce this feature at the Google I/O 2015. As the feature is already their in Android smartphone through 3rd party solutions is making this not that exciting. It remains to be seen what else Android M will bring. The rumored features of Android M include besides fingerprint authentication, home automation features, more car features and better notifications. In summary, we know nothing about Android M so far.
The current version of Android, Android L was announced at the Google I/O last year and it is still rolling out to devices right now. It will likely take another year until Android M will be arriving at users.
Google I/O will start this Thursday, /4/28 and as a leaked schedule revealed Android M is a topic and we should expect to learn more details about Android M and the rumored fingerprint capabilities. The Google I/O 2015 keynote will start at 9:30am PDT.
