Alibaba, Amazon, Facebook, Baidu might also be interested
Nokia seems like a good candidate whenever it comes to buys offs and acquisitions. Following in the footsteps of Microsoft, Apple is also planning to tag Nokia with its name. As stated in a recent Bloomberg report, the Cupertino giant is most likely going to purchase Nokia’s HERE mapping business. The Finnish company itself has opened the opportunity and invited some high profile companies for the bid and we are quite positive that Apple might take suit. Others which have been approached by Nokia are no less when it come to brand names and the list includes Alibaba, Amazon, Facebook, Baidu, and a group of German carmakers.
It is also speculated that some private equity firms are also interested in the offer. It is obvious that Nokia had been planning for this sale of its mapping unit since a very long time because it has been busy hushing around its financial advisors. As for the bids are concerned, the company is expecting €3 billion (about $3.2 billion) and the first of the bids are going to arrive by the next week so we can see who takes the last bid and wins the mapping unit.
Nokia is not just busy and on the news because of its sales but it has also been reported in the news as a buyer. The company has recently acquired Alcatel-Lucent for €15.6 billion and it has been amid rumors that one of its independent divisions is going to start making mobile phones by the next year. So if in case Apple does get the HERE deal then it would be quite useful to the company in terms of its own map services.
