Third party battery strap taps into the watch’s hidden port to support faster charging while on the go

As we all know, the Apple Watch has had many third party fans and many manufacturers have gotten the chance to jump in the Apple battlefield. Portability is one of the prime concerns of all those who are buying an Apple Watch or any other smartwatch for that matter – simply because the entire point of having it is to use it while on the go. Fortunately for us, someone has stepped forward with the idea of a battery strap which will allow users to charge their Apple Watch while on the go.

The company building this Reserve Strap accessory has claimed that it has gone inside the watch’s hidden port to manipulate it and allow for faster charging. Currently, the Apple Watch depends upon its magnetic, inductive charging solution. However, a wired connection to the device’s hidden 6 pin port will ensure that designing battery straps for the device would be much easier.

Initially, a similar magnetic, wireless charging solution was in mind of the developers of this strap but eventually they made the better decision of going with the hidden port option.

The company claims, “Our engineers have been able to independently confirm that the 6 pin diagnostic port underneath the Apple Watch case can be used for charging. The Reserve Strap will take advantage of this using a simple, retractable connector instead of the previous inductive charging cradle design… By utilizing this port instead of wirelessly charging, we’ve been able to achieve a higher charge capacity and quicker, more efficient charging times while also improving durability and eliminating any interference with Apple Watch functionality including taptic feedback and heartrate sensors.”
