Baby Spiders Rain Down in Australia

It almost seemed to be a hoax. But as they say, truth is stranger than fiction. It’s raining spiders in the Land Down Under that is Australia.

Everybody has heard the saying “it’s raining cats and dogs” which means a downpour or torrential rain. But who would have thought that it would rain spiders and webs. But such a thing is actually happening in Aussie Land.

Thin gauzy layers of webs alongside baby spiders floated onto the ground from the empyrean heights in Australia much to the amazement of the inhabitants. This incident took place in the Southern Tablelands region. 

The occurrence was one which was perfectly natural though and didn’t have any elements of doom-mongering in its subtext. It even has a name. Termed Angel Hair, it involves small spiders from the Outback that build flimsy gossamer-like webs that float up in the sky like giant parachutes and aid the spiders in their journey from one place to another. Basically, the phenomenon served migration purposes. 

The hot months of /4/and August are when this strange sight can be seen. The baby spiders become airborne and employ the huge spread-out webs as means of transport through the vast expanses of the sunny sky. And when these silky webs fall to the ground, it almost seems as if it is Yuletide and a spectacle of snowfall is taking place right before your eyes. 

Huge colonies of baby spiders descend from the upper regions like space invaders and the time at which they come down is usually before noon or in the afternoon.

The winds carry these webs loaded with baby spiders long distances and this situation occurs several times per year. One Aussie named Mr. Basterfield has been observing this curious event in his homeland since the past decade and a half. 

He is very enthused about it all and wants anyone who has any info regarding the absurd happening to let him know so that he might note it down just for the record.  He is even active on Facebook so as to get the news out to as many people as possible and receive feedback from them. 

Mr. Basterfield told GoulburnPost, there are possibly millions of spiders atop their webs out there just floating like dispossessed ghosts in the air. The very thought brings to mind a picture of aliens from outer space.

But they are harmless and scatter once the webs hit the ground. If there is anything annoying about these tiny agents, it is that they might get stuck in someone’s beard or hair. And that would be a minor irritant of sorts so it’s nothing to get worried about.
