Back off Oscars, It’s Time for the Pawscars

The Oscars 2015 alternative titled PAWSCARS honored a number of animals that acted brilliantly in various movies.

The time for the Oscars 2015 /4/have finally come, but this time those creatures caught up in the strange web of experience with us humans are getting their due as well.

PAWSCARS, a show started by the American Humane Association, has begun declaring the latest winners of roles in movies and they happen to be animals. The alternative show will have Pauley Perrette and Lou Wegner as comperes.

In fact, the countdown is over and the show /4/be viewed online right now. Among the various creatures, big and small, that got the awards for remarkable performances are some very familiar mammals.

The cutest puppy that made it to the top of the list was Wolfie, a King Charles spaniel that showed some wonderful acting chops in the movie The Interview. The violence and explosions in the film were aspects from which the little pup was kept safe and secure.

Then our bovine companions who provide fresh milk were among the vicarious award winners. Into the Woods, which was a Disney animated film, shows a magical cow named Milky White which was played by Tug, an animal impersonator. Dolphin’s Tale 2 depicts Savannah, a dolphin, who dies leaving behind a baby named Hope.

In Sex Tape, starring Jason Segal and Cameron Diaz, a German shepherd played alternatively by two dogs, Nicki and King, bags the prize for best chase scene. A horse named Dale was handled by the ape leader named Caesar in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

In the late James Gandolfini’s mob drama The Drop, a trio of puppies named T, Puppers and Ice grabbed the best young animals performance award. Reese Witherspoon’s Wild meanwhile has an ensemble of animals from a rattlesnake to a fox to a llama.

Sassy the cat was the star attraction of Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey. Sassy was simulated in this Disney production by a cat named Tiki. Meanwhile, the lifetime achievement award for the animal diva from them all was given to a capuchin monkey named Crystal who is a veteran movie fixture.

Crystal has been in the show business arena since the past two decades or so. The little simian has appeared in such famous films as Night at the Museum, Dr. Doolittle and American Pie.

The PAWSCARS are ample proof of the fact that animal rights and an appreciation of our companion cousins are qualities that are alive and well on earth. The ecological balance of the planet depends upon their existence and where would we humans be without the diversity of fauna and flora found in the wilderness.
