Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates is back on top of the Forbes Billionaires list.
Forbes released its new Billionaires rankings, and there is a new number one who already has a lot of experience being the world’s richest person. Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist, Bill Gates, is back.
Forbes found for its 29th annual billionaires ranking a record 1,826 billionaires with an aggregate net worth of $7.05 trillion, up from $6.4 trillion a year ago. The richest of the richest got $500 billion richer in just 12 months.
The new list includes 290 newcomers, with 71 of them coming from China. A record 46 among the ranks are under age 40. The most famous newcomer to the billionaires club is Michael Jordan. Michael Jordan managed to capitalize on his exceptional basketball career with the Jordan brand. His biggest asset is through his stake in the Charlotte Hornets.
Bill Gates is once again the richest person on the planet. He held this title 16 of the past 21 years. His fortune grew $3.2 billion since last year to $79.2 billion, despite a gift of $1.5 billion to The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in November 2014.
Carols Slim from Mexico got pushed down by Gates to #2. The third richest person is Warren Buffett.
Mark Zuckerberg leads the rank of the Billionaires under 40. He moved up 5 places to number 16. The youngest billionaire in the world is SnapChat co-founder Evan Spiegel with 24 years.
Silicon Valley tech companies created 23 new billionaires, including co-founders of Uber Travis Kalanick and Garrett Camp, and their first employee Ryan Graves. Elizabeth Holmes, who runs blood-testing firm Theranos, debuts on the new billionaires list as the youngest self-made woman at age 31.
