Scientists have revealed a new nano cell that they believe will work in the same manner as human memory.
So it looks like scientists have been working for quite some time on this nano memory cell. This nano cell is 10,000 times thinner than the width of a human hair. This nano cell is also capable of storing and processing strands of data at the same time.
There was a time when we thought that super intelligent robots can never be built. Now these robots are a step closer to reality. UC Santa Barbara scientists recently developed an artificial circuit that behaves exactly like the human brain.
So this has been done for the first time that scientists were able to create a circuit of 100 artificial synapses which is able to do typical human tasks like image classification. The scientists claim that these nano memory cells are able to store information and do processing.
These nano memory cells are able to copy the analogue nature of human brain by keeping data stored in various states. One of the scientists said that it was a small but an important step. Scientists also said that the circuitry will be eventually expanded and scaled to approach something like the human brain.
The human brain has quadrillion synaptic connections. If the scientists are able to build this nano memory cell bionic brain, then they might be able to cure Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. Scientists also believe that if they are able to replicate a brain outside the body then they would minimize ethical issues that involved in experimenting on the brain.
In a demonstration, the circuit that had artificial neural network was able to classify the letters ‘z’, ’v’ and ‘n’. The circuit analyzed the letters by their images. A researcher said that while the circuit was very small compared to practical networks, it is still big enough to prove the concept of practicality. He said as soon more solutions to the technology are proposed, the technology will make it to the market sooner rather than later.
