Boston Marathon set to take place today with thousands of runners coming to participate in the ultimate race.
As per tradition since 1987, the annual marathon is arranged in Boston. This year, the marathon has been arranged under crucial circumstances. The ongoing federal trial of Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. Tsarnev was responsible to have bombed the 2013 marathon.
Tsarnaev was convicted on all 30 counts against him in the 2013 Marathon bombings, but he has not yet been sentenced. So when the attention turned to the marathon being organized again this year, Tsarnev’s fate has to be decided now more than ever to make the people feel more secure about participating.
Not that they are scared or anything. After last year’s successful marathon, when the danger was much more imminent. People are much more encouraged about the marathon this year.
Participants and city folk are actually saying that Tsarnev’s trial is much more reassuring and although it remains to be decided if he would get a death sentence or a life sentence without parole, it is good to know he is behind bars and not preparing bombs to explode.
The 119th Boston Marathon will be covered live from its start at 7.30. The Boston Athletic Association will also live stream the elite race beginning at 8:30 a.m. on their website. Meb Keflezighi Marathon, is back to defend his title this year.
Two-time reigning women’s champion Rita Jeptoo is currently serving a two-year ban for performance-enhancing drug use. St. Louis Marathon winner Kendall Schler was stripped of her spot in Boston after it was discovered the entered the race after the final checkpoint.
Schler, 26, had qualified for Boston after finishing third in St. Louis last year. St. Louis Marathon winner, who in 2014 became the first American man in 31 years to win the Boston.
