World War Z 2 finally has a release date. The sequel to “World War Z” will premiere on June 9, 2017, according to a Variety report.
An year ago, news have been swirling about the possible sequel of 2013 “World War Z”, a film starring Brad Pitt and Mireille Enos which earned $540 million worldwide and turned out to be highest-grossing film of Brad Pitt’s career. It had been officially announced in /4/2014 that Paramount will make a sequel with Steven Knight being hired as a scriptwriter. Juan Antonio Bayona had been tapped to direct the film while Brad Pitt was said to return in the lead role.
The details regarding the plot are not revealed yet. However, it is expected to continue where the original film left off. The 2013 film followed the adventures of Gerry Lane who alongside his family got stuck into a suspicious traffic jam. Suddenly, a fatal virus spreads and starts to turn people into something wild and vicious. Gerry Lane travels worldwide to find the source of the infection and the way to stop it from being spread.
Brad Pitt played the role of Gerry Lane in the first film and will produce the upcoming sequel alongside Jeremy Kleiner and Dede Gardner like he did in 2013 but it is still unsure whether he will be appearing in the Wordl War Z 2 or not. Although, it has been hinted earlier that he will return for the sequel. The remainder of the cast is also kept under wraps.
The release date of “World War Z” which has been announced recently is interesting one indeed since another huge film “The Fantastic Four 2” is set to make its debut on that same day. It means World War Z 2 will have to square off with another highly anticipated film and has to find a way to make it presence felt at the box office.
