WNBA stars Brittney Griner and Glory Johnson were arrested on April 23 on suspicion of assault and disorderly conduct.

According to a police report obtained by The Arizona Republic, an argument between Griner and Johnson escalated into a physical confrontation in their Goodyear, Ariz. home on Wednesday afternoon.

Several people inside the house tried to intervene before they called the police, per The Arizona Republic.

Johnson’s sister Judy told authorities she contacted them in the afternoon of April 22 because she did not know what to do when Griner and Johnson were “in the living room throwing things at each other.”

“We couldn’t get them pulled apart,” Judy Johnson told police, via The Arizona Republic.

When taken into custody, Griner confessed to authorities she and Johnson were having relationship problems. She said they had been aruging daily until things reached a boiling point on Wednesday when Johnson said Griner “disrespected” her in the house they purchased just two days earlier, The Arizona Republic report goes on to say.

For her part, Johnson told police Griner got in her face, so she pushed her. The former then started talking to her sister when Griner came up and pushed her head from behind. When Johnson turned around, a melee ensued.

Both women were on the floor for a full four to six minutes while the entire fight lasted around 20 minutes, per The Arizona Republic

Griner sustained hand injuries, including those to her wrist and figners and what she claims as a “tooth mark.” On the other hand, Johnson had right-lip lacerations while a male individual was injuren when he tried to step in between the two WNBA stars, per the police report.

“I asked Brittney if things got out of control, and she nodded her head up and down,” an officer mentioned in the police report.

“It turned into a fight. Broke up. We kept arguing, mouthing back and forth, clashed again, separated us, clashed again, separated us, and here we are now,” Griner told authorities in in the police report.

Her lawyer, David Michael Cantor, issued a statement the day after the fight, per The Arizona Republic:

“The last few months have been an extremely stressful time for Brittney and Glory. They will continue to work through these hardships together and ask that the media respect their privacy as they handle this family matter.

“Glory and Brittney sincerely apologize for the distraction this has caused their families, respective teams, the WNBA, sponsors and fans.”

The New York Times’ Jere Longman reported on April 23 both Griner and Johnson were released on Thursday. Neither required medical treatment nor filed a lawsuit against the other.

Longman added the stress both Griner and Johnson, both 24 years old,  had been going through was due to wedding preparations and moving in to their new house.

The WNBA issued a statement saying it is aware of the incident. The Phoenix Mercury and Tulsa Shock, Griner’s and Johnsons’s teams, respectively, followed suit, per The New York Times.

Longman argues “it was too early to tell if Griner’s arrest would affect her chances of playing in the Olympics.”

The 6-foot-8 Griner blocked a WNBA record 129 shots  last season, earning the 2014 WNBA Defensive Player of the Year award in the process. A third-year player, Griner averaged 15.6 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.8 blocks last season, per The Arizona Republic.

On the other hand, Johnson averaged 14.7 points, 9.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists for Tulsa last seaon, per WNBA.com

Griner and Johnson were engaged in Aug. 2014 after the former proposed to the latter, per a separate Arizona Republic update
