French director Gilles Paquet-Brenner has adapted an earlier written novel “Dark Places” by Gillian Flynn starring Charlize Theron in the role of Libby Day
Gillian Flynn’s novel “Gone Girl” became the news last year. The David Fichner movie grossed major bucks ($360 million) on the box office, earned rave reviews and even earned an Oscar nomination for its lead actress Rosamund Pike in the role of Amy Dunne.
Since its certifiable success with the movie watchers, Gillian Flynn’s novels are now a main attraction for directors worldwide. French director, Gilles Paquet-Brenner is taking up the bar. He has adapted an older novel by Flynn. Titled “Dark Places”, it is a novel Gillian wrote before “Gone Girl” and it is said to have darker thematic and scenic storyline.
It is the story of Satanic cult massacre of a family in which the young 11 years old daughter Libby Day is the only survivor. Libby testifies against her brother as the murderer of her mother. It earns her brother Ben Day a long term in jail.
Now, years later a crime enthusiast Lyle convinced of her brother’s innocence encourages Libby to look into the night’s events. She goes further into details to find that what she thought was the truth might not be the actual truth. She sets out to find out whether her brother was really responsible for the murder of her family.
The role of Libby Day was crucial and Charlize Theron was successful in scoring the movie over Amy Adams. Charlize’s own family tragedy back in 1991 might have aided in amping up her personality for the movie. Her father’s death at the hands of her mother in self-defense was not denied by the actress.
She admitted that she understood family tragedy a little better and she understood Libby’s horrors years later. We can anticipate Theron giving a realistic performance.
The other characters in the movie include Corey Stoll who plays her jailed version of the older Ben Day who laughs at her when she visits him saying she is as jailed as him, giving an insight of skepticism.
The younger version of Ben is being played by Tye Sheridan and Chloë Grace Moretz his girlfriend in 1985, Diondra. The others actors in the line up are Christina Hendricks, Drea de Matteo, Andrea Roth and Nicolas Hoult as Lyle from “The Kill Club”, the crime enthusiast.
He will also be featuring alongside Charlize in her next movie, Mad Max: Fury Road with Tom Hardy Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Zoë Kravitz, and Riley Keough.
The movie is being released in France just next month but is yet to earn a release date in the US.
