- A box office hit ‘Cinderella’ bags $132 million in global earnings
Cinderella stars Lily James in the title role, Oscar winner Cate Blanchett, and Helena Bonham.
The live action remake of the animated classic ‘Cinderella’ by Disney had a nice turnout in North American theaters. The movie topped the list of estimated weekend ticket sales. The Disney movie features Lily James as the enchanted princess Ella and the Oscar winner Cate Blanchett as her cruel stepmother.
The movie has been a box office hit globally and bagged in $70 million as its domestic earnings. Even though Cinderella is rated PG the movie averaged a fantastic $18219 from 3845 locations which also includes 358 IMAX screens. Apart from this the movie earned $62,400,000 from foreign earnings, according to Box Office Mojo.
Released on March 13, 2015 the movie has already earned more than expected. The Kenneth Branagh directed movie has a production budget of $95 million. According to most estimates Cinderella will edge out the $69.4 million opening weekend of last summer’s Maleficent which also had advantages such as an A-list actor, Angelina Jolie and coming in 3D option.
The popularity of this Disney movie even swept away the latest Warner Bros film ‘Run the Night’ which features Liam Neeson. Neeson stars as a hit man going up against the mob in order to protect his son.
The movie took second on the charts with bagging just an estimated $11 million in its debut weekend. Even the British spy comedy ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’ experienced a drop in its sales but nonetheless moved up a spot in its fourth week at the theaters. The movie has been able to take the third spot on the box office with bagging $6.2 million.
‘Chappie’ the artificial intelligence thriller took a long fall from its top spot debut last week and ‘Focus’ a con-artist movie that features Will smith as a crook bagged just over $5.8 million in estimated ticket sales for the fourth spot on the box office. At the sixth spot is ‘The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’ which bagged in $5.7 million and features Judi Dench, Maggie Smith and Richard Gere.
Apart from this the animated movie ‘The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water’ made its presence on the box office charts even in its fifth week at the theaters with $4.1 million in ticket sales and totaling $154.7 million up till now.
Then there is the much acclaimed Kevin Costner’s sport drama ‘McFarland, USA’ which is the story of a small town cross country team made up of immigrant students. Then the Academy Award winning movie ‘American Sniper’ that stars Bradley Cooper charged back into the top 10 box office films even in its eleventh week in theaters.
Finally at the tenth spot we have the ‘Lazarus Effect’ which bagged $2.82 million in sales. The movie is about medical students who discover a way to bring people back to life.
