Signed on by the production for a seven episode arc, Laura Benanti plays the best friend of Rayna James played by Connie Britton and the duo is singing the song ‘Gasoline and Matches’ on the fourth episode of the show.
Laura Benanti recently won a Tony award for her performance in the Broadway play Gypsy. She expressed that she was a great fan of the ABC’s hit musical drama Nashville.
The production might have picked up on that because they went on to sign Benanti for a seven episode arc on its latest season. Benanti plays the character of Rayna James’ (Connie Britton) best friend, Sadie Stone.
Sadie is a singer, songwriter who has spent her entire career writing songs for other stars. Laura revealed that there is more secrets to be explored in Sadie’s life that includes a man and her and a romantic relationship.
The star talked about her character and said that Sadie has a sense of humor by which she sees the world and she shares that similarity with her character. She is a hard working woman who is not spoiled in any way and has had her ups and downs in life.

Furthermore, she revealed that Sadie is aware of the struggles of the struggles of her professional life. In the current season’s fourth episode, I Feel Sorry for Me, Sadie and Rayna would be hiding out from the paparazzi.
They will sing a duet track ‘Gasoline and Matches’ written by the show’s executive music producer Buddy Miller and his wife. The friends will also be seen bonding and discussing
their lives in which Sadie /4/indicate the stranger in her past. Sadie was signed on for only seven episodes at first. But now she is shooting the eighth episode and she said that she has no idea how long the writers want to keep her around.
She said that she would be interacting with other characters on the show in the upcoming episodes instead of just acting with Britton. On asking what other shows she would like to work in, Laura enlisted Homeland, Modern Family, Parks and Recreation, The Affair, Masters of Sex and Veep.
She has taken time of her Broadway career to star on different TV shows including The Sound Of Music Live!, Go On, The Playboy Club, Starved, Nurse Jackie, Royal Pains, The Big C and Law & Order: SVU. The star would be returning to Broadway next year but before that she would like to do justice to Sadie Stone.
