David Letterman would have chosen Jon Stewart as his successor if consulted!

David Letterman will soon be retiring as host on the ‘Late Show’ and in a recent interview with the New York Times he shared his thoughts on the departure are close to ‘Melancholia’. Letterman joked his entire life has been about trepidation, as when he was about to move to California and have a baby he felt immense anxiety and Trepidation.

However the move and the baby was more than Letterman could have ever dreamed of and he’s hoping the same will be the case of his retirement. Either Letterman will be immensely happy with his departure from the show or he will turn to a life of crime.

Letterman will be replaced by Stephen Colbert on the ‘Late Show’ but if he was given the choice he would have gone for Jon Stewart and believes he would have been a good choice.

Letterman revealed he was not consulted on the decision of who will replace him and it did bother him, however now he believes Stephen Colbert will be a good move. According to Letterman the addition of Colbert on the ‘Late Show’ will bring a third and different dynamic to the show and it will be interesting.

Letterman even shared he’s realized it’s time to give the younger generation the chance to take over the Late night TV hosting. When Letterman saw John Mayer hosting the ‘Late Late show’ he realized the problem as Mayer is young, handsome, trim and witty and that is what the audience wants.

But then Letterman thought he has nothing to worry about as he can’t do what others are doing, just as he can’t be Jimmy Fallon who has his own unique style.

The departure of Jay Leno from Late night TV hosting also influenced Letterman’s decision to go for retirement as he was the only older man left on the Late night TV show front.
