David Letterman Spotted in Indy 500

The former host of the “Late show with David Letterman” was supporting his IndyCar team in the event

For all those who were curious to know about David Letterman after his retirement from Late Show earlier this week, the former host has been spotted in Indy 500 on Sunday, an automobile race held annually at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Letterman was wearing a red shirt with a huge logo of race sponsor and was supporting his IndyCar team and its drivers Oriol Servia and Graham Rahal. It was not a surprise indeed since Letterman is the co-owner of “Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing” and was there to see how his team is doing.

“This is the best.” Letterman told SB Nation before the race. “I grew up here. I used to hear the track from where I used to live. I’d stand in my yard and just listen. Everyone in the neighborhood used to listen to it. It was a great fun.” said Indianapolis native Letterman. He is an avid race fan and has been involved with Indianapolis 500 as the co-owner of a team since 1996. 

David Letterman, former racing driver and the champion of 1986 Indy 500, Bobby Rahal and businessman Mike Lanigan are the owners of “Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. His team won the Indy 500 in 2004.

“When we won it in 2004 – that was a pretty great memory. That was really special.” Letterman said.

Graham Rahal, the son of Bobby Rahal and one of the drivers of Letterman’s team said. “Dave’s love for this place is extreme. He pays attention and knows exactly what’s happening. To get another win for him here would mean as much as my dad or anyone else. It would be pretty powerful.”

Team members of Letterman were wearing T-shirts with their own list of reasons for loving David Letterman and for paying him a tribute. The biggest tribute was probably the racing car painted with Letterman face and written thanksdave on it.

However, the driver Oriol Servia could not finish it off with a style and went on to get 29 position in the race.
