Daytime Emmy Awards 2015 was filled with tributes, end of prank wars and soap opera winners!

The Daytime Emmy Awards 2015 were held on Stage 16 at Warner Bros with about 1300 people in attendance. The ceremony was filled with talk-show hosts to soap opera stars. The star studded events was hosted by Tyra Banks for the first time in her career, as she opened the show by rapping a special song with lyrics designed to sum up the last year of daytime TV. The ceremony was filled with humorous antics, tributes to fallen stars, reunions and award winners.

At the award show not one but two stars were given a tribute one of them very surprising. In a memorial reel tribute was paid to Paul Walker, who passed away in 2013, showing his appearances on soap operas early on in his career.

The other tribute was given to Joan Rivers by her daughter Melissa Rivers. Melissa Rivers came out on the stage to present the memorial reel but first she had a few words to share about her mother the late Joan Rivers.

Melissa recalled how in the 80 her mother had struggled to make it in the TV industry after a failed talk show, but Joan Rivers refused to give up and the day time TV community ultimately saved Joan Rivers’ career. Joan Rivers created her own day time TV talk show which successfully ran for five years and earned Rivers an Emmy nomination, her only ever!

The most talked about event of the night was delivered by Ellen DeGeneres and Matt Lauer, even though Lauer wasn’t even present in the ceremony. The day time TV hosts have been involved in a prank war with each other for months and finally they took the platform of the Daytime Emmy Awards to call it a truce.

A pre-recorded bit involving both DeGeneres and Lauer was shown where they ended their prank war Matt Lauer effectively took it as a cue to rip off his clothes, revealing black underpants, black stockings, a garter belt, and nipple pasties. DeGeneres then went on to announce Matt Lauer has decided to donate $1000 of his money every time an Emmy winner on this stage thanks Matt Lauer. DeGeneres then stressed if all the winners thank Lauer they can raise a lot of money.

Another highlight of the award ceremony was when 93 years old Betty White won a Lifetime Achievement Award for a decade in spanning seven decades in the industry. The legendary comedian was presented the award by Marie Osmond, Regis Philbin, Tom Bergeron, Charo, and Fred Willard.

After holding her trophy Betty exclaimed ‘My Goodness’ and went on to proclaim she cannot even describe how she feels. Betty then addressed the golden trophy and called it beautiful before sharing how she has been in the TV business since 1949 and feels privileges enough to still be a part of the industry. The comedic legend who started out in silent TV then went on to thank all the different generations of her fans including grandparents, parents and children, winking at the end.

The ceremony was also a platform for a reunion of the ‘Days of our lives’ cast which also won the Best Daytime Drama Award. ‘General Hospital’ was the most nominated drama of the night with a total of eight nominations but won three awards tying with ‘The Young and The Restless’.

The ceremony was ended by Tyra Banks in the same sassy way it started as she rapped calling out to all those not a fans of daytime TV they can kiss her fat ass, ending it all with a slap on her bum.
