Eddie Murphy to be honored with the 2015 Mark Twain prize for American Comedy!
Eddie Murphy is going to be awarded the most distinct award in the world of comedy, the 2015 Mark Twain Prize for American Comedy. The news was confirmed on Thursday, the 8th of April, that Murphy will be bestowed with the highest comedy award granted by the US. The performing arts prize by the John F. Kennedy Center will be given to Murphy this year on October 18 and the bestowal ceremony will be broadcasted nationally.
The Mark Twain Prize for American Comedy is given to individuals who influence the American society through their writings, jokes, comments or satires, in the same way Mark Twain brought laugh to the entire nation with his works. Other notable inspirations include Samuel Clemens.
Eddie Murphy has been a comedic artist for nearly three decades and has delivered laughs to the American public all through his career. According to Deborah F. Rutter the chief of the Kennedy Center Murphy has been giving out ground breaking comedic pieces since his stint on SNL and as a movie star.
Rutter shared how Murphy’s brand of comedy was years ahead of time just like the works of Mark Twain. Murphy was also a fearless critic of the society and had shocked and informed his fans numerous times with his uncompromising principles on social injustice.
Cappy McGarr stated Murphy has always been a transformative comedian who keeps on influencing people when he gets to the core of an issue through his provocative comedy, all the while remaining extremely funny. Moreover Murphy had shaped the way for future comedians and many have followed in his footsteps.
After the initial announcement Eddie Murphy stated he is very honored to be receiving such recognition and to join a very distinguished list of comedians and influencers. Previous /3/Twain prize winners include Jay Leno, Whoopi Goldberg and Tina Fey.
