Eric Ebron Says He is Eagerly Waiting For OTAs to Deliver For Lions

Eric Ebron /4/have had a bad start in Detroit Lions by failing to deliver on his promises but that does not make him anything less of a player. Ebron is actually keeping his fingers crossed for the OTAs. The rookie is certain that he will deliver commendable results.

OTAs are only a few miles away but Ebron stated that he wished they would be scheduled for sooner than April. Ebron blamed his flaws on his lack of familiarity with the gameplan of NFL. He argued that he has been working on his weaknesses and is now ready to face the bull by the horns.

“I feel like it couldn’t get here fast enough,” he said. “I’m dying for OTAs this offseason.”

“There’s a lot of things to get batter at,” he said. “Now that you understand the game plan in the NFL, it’s all about improving on that. It’s all about getting faster and better and quicker and stronger and things like that to just come out and ultimately dominate and that’s what you want to do. So that’s what I’m preparing for.”

While Ebron’s poor performance /4/be news to others, it’s not a surprise to him because he went through the same ordeal while playing as a freshman in college. In fact he only got 10 passes for 207 yards and a single touchdown. His game improved gradually because by the time he was a sophomore, he had recorded 40 catches for 625 yards and four touchdowns.

Ebron is therefore expecting the same thing that happened in North Carolina to recur this time round. Ebron was drafted by Lions in 2014 NFL draft. Trouble started looming when the star did not perform as he had promised. In a nutshell, Ebron had convinced the Lions management that he was able to play like All-Pro tight end Jimmy Graham.

As a matter of fact, Ebron did not record results close to those of Graham. He only got 25 passes for 248 yards. The good thing is that the star agreed that he had failed to live to the expectations of the Lions. He blamed himself for giving them unrealistic hopes.

“It is what it is,” he said Wednesday after speaking to children at a Boys and Girls Club in Detroit about financial literacy. “I kind of overhyped that situation myself not exactly knowing what kind of situation I was going into or which team I was going to get drafted to. It is what it is. It happened. (My) rookie year is over and the only thing you can do is progress. It’s just all about progressing now.”

Lions general manager, Martin Mayhew stated that it was common for most rookies to fall below their expectations at the onset of their career. Mayhew argued that Ebron had learned from his flaws and should be given some credit because he missed a couple of games due to an injury.

“I think he dealt with some typical rookie issues in learning the offense,” general manager Martin Mayhew said of Ebron’s rookie campaign. “I think he got a lot better as the season went on, even after the hamstring (which forced him to miss three games).

Mayhew added that the performance of Ebron has been improving with time as was witnessed towards the end of the season. The manager was hopeful that the uprising player had dealt with the anxieties of playing in NFL for the first time.

“It /4/have calmed him down a little bit and I think he played better later in the year. Certainly I would expect better production next year. He’s certainly capable, he certainly has the ability. I think he’s going to be better the second year in our offense. I think a lot of our players are going to be better the second year in our offense and think he’s one of them. I do expect more from him.”
