The famous singer Erykah Badu performed recently for the king of Swaziland. When criticized for being hypocritical, Erykah said that she considered herself an artist first and was apolitical.
Erykah Badu’s singing of “Happy Birthday” for the king of Swaziland was dubbed the height of hypocrisy. Erykah is a singer who is a civil rights activist and a fighter for justice.
But the king of Swaziland is known for his plethora of wives and expensive cars while 63% of his country’s population live on a meager $1.25 per day.
U know,I’m not racist any more than any other ‘black’ in AMERICA but is it odd that so many WHITE MEN are tearing me down? Is it me? Or nah— ErykahBadoula (@fatbellybella) /4/2, 2014
When Erykah sang for the king recently and also presented him with several gifts, she was accused of lining her pockets instead of standing for what is morally right.
The fact that she supported a dictator and oppressive leader, in fact the last African potentate, shows her lack of good taste in human affairs.
I WIL NOT APOLOGIZE FOR ACTIONS I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR. I WILL NOT POP FOR YOU ,OR BREAK FOR YOU ,OR HATE FOR YOU ,OR EVEN HATE YOU.— ErykahBadoula (@fatbellybella) /4/2, 2014
Erykah Badu has just joined the ranks of such singers as Mariah Carey, Kanye West, Jennnifer Lopez and Hillary Swank who have engaged in similar stupid decisions.
But whereas in the past it often took place without much ado, today thanks to social media the facts leak out and cause damage control specialists to step in.
Even such big names as Nelly Furtado, Beyonce, 50 Cent and Usher have given shows worth $2 million for the late dictator and human rights abuser Muam/3/Gaddafi.
When they were questioned later on as to their motives, all of them expressed ignorance over who they were performing for. Furthermore many of them said that they had donated most of the money they received to charities.
I’ve never seen this behavior up so close before. interesting. As a sociologist, I can some what relate. But as a HUMAN I am unable to.— ErykahBadoula (@fatbellybella) /4/2, 2014
Erykah Badu is just the latest example of this trend of not doing what you say. The lady has spoken out against any criticism by saying that what she did was benign.
She also gave the selfsame excuse that she had distributed the money among the king’s servants. Erykah has furthermore kept up a storm of comments on Twitter where she is answering every criticism against her in a tit-for-tat fashion.
AlWAYS Stand your Ground. No Fear.— ErykahBadoula (@fatbellybella) /4/2, 2014
Badu’s rationalizations of the situation reek of reaction formation. She would be a better person for acknowledging her mistake and taking the side of human rights for a change.
When life gives Erykah Badu’s ass lemons, Erykah Badu’s ass makes life apologize
