The family do not believe the picture it paints to be accurate.
Family members of late singer Amy Winehouse have seen the documentary that was made about her life, and they are most certainly not impressed. In fact, they are loudly criticizing the movie for being “misleading,” “inaccurate,” and “unbalanced.” The movie, that has recently been titled Amy, will debut this /4/at the Cannes Film Festival, but the family is hoping for some edits in just a few short weeks.
“The narrative is formed by the testimony of a narrow sample of Amy’s associates, many of whom had nothing to do with her in the last years of her life. Counter views expressed to the filmmakers did not make the final cut.”
In an interview with The Sun on Sunday, Winehouse’s father, Mitch, 64, added, “I felt sick when I watched it for the first time. Amy would be furious. This is not what she would have wanted,” according to Entertainment Weekly.
The film initially had full support from the family, hoping to shed some light on the truth behind the publicly-mocked but critically-acclaimed singer. Winehouse died in 2011 from alcohol poisoning, adding to her already mythical appeal and dramatic nature. The family wanted to show the truth about what a loving and beautiful person she was, but now wish to “disassociate themselves from the forthcoming film,” says a statement from a family spokesperson.
In particular, the film paints a picture of the family as one that did not support Amy, nor did they care about her daily actions. The film also ignores her ex-husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, whom many believe to be the cause of her debilitating fight with drugs and alcohol.
A spokesperson for the film said: “We came on board with the full backing of the Winehouse family and we approached the project with total objectivity.
“We conducted in the region of 100 interviews with people that knew Amy. The story that the film tells is a reflection of our findings from these interviews.”
With Amy gone, there is no telling what the true story is – and we will likely never know.
