Set to be released summer 2014, the death of Paul Walker pushed the release back to April 3, 2015. On Nov. 1, Universal sent out the first official trailer and it delivers fast cars, action, and a family looking for a little revenge.
Earlier today, E! Online streamed an exclusive look at the Universal’s Furious 7. Set to premiere on April 3, 2015, Dominic ‘Dom‘ Toretto (Vin Diesel) crew’s back to kick a little butt.
Dom teams up with brother-in-law Brian O’Connor (Paul Walker), Roman Peace (Tyrese), Tej Parker (Ludacris), and Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez) to battle against Ian Shaw (Jason Statham). Like Die Hard with a Vengeance, Shaw’s out to kill Dom for murdering his baby brother Owen (Luke Evans) in Furious 6. The Shaw brothers were part of the Sons of London, a hardcore gang to rival Dom’s own team.
And anyone paying attention to the bonus clip at the end of Furious 6 showed Ian killing Han (Sung Kang) while calling Dom for a little payback chat. “You don’t know me. But you’re about to.”
Furious 7‘s picking up where the crew meets up for what looks to be Han’s funeral, who originally died at the end of the third film, 2006’s Tokyo Drift, but the movies are set out of order. And the bandits are once again joined by adversarial ally Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson). What’s a little physical pain, right? Make it work, Hobbs! Dressed to the nines with swag and debonair oozing off the screen, this time the battle will be for keeps.
The trailer show cars dropping from airplanes and turning into off-road terrain vehicles with a serious source of artillery when hitting the ground. Brian’s heroic leap and Letty’s awesome catch shows this will be the perfect way to end the Dom and Brian duo while honoring Walker’s memory.
As the audience remembers, Paul Walker died in a car accident last year and many viewers wondered what would happen to the film. Turns out, the group of actors are back for “one last ride” with some killer threads and need for vengeance. It’s not a good idea to attack Dom’s allies. And even dumber to crow afterwards.
When Ian asks Dom how losing his friends will feel, Dom challenges the idea of a single person. “I don’t have friends. I have family.”
Kurt Russell plays an agent, warning Dom that the crew’s no longer in their regular area of expertise. Seems like the agent’s never really pay attention to power of Dom. Or what he can really do when saving a girl or two.
Also returning to help Dom are Mia Torretto (Jordana Brewster), Elena (Elsa Pataky) and Sean Boswell (Lucas Black). This time around, James Wan (Saw, The Conjuring) is directing the destructive crew. Originally set to released this past summer, the movie was pushed until 2015, to work around Walker’s death’s and to honor the actor and character.
As with previous installations of the franchise, the scenery is beautiful with blue oceans and canyons contrasting to the polished, cosmopolitan cities. The most striking cinematography of the trailer comes from Abu Dhabi, where the gorgeous ocean and beautiful architecture manage to elevate the cat-and-mouse game.
Slowly the series has begun to resemble Ocean’s trilogy’s global set but with really hot, fast cars.
Other filming locations included Georgia, Canada, Japan and Los Angeles. The last location is very important since it was during a short filming break at a charity event outside of the city that Walker died. Diesel honored his friend at the premiere, saying, “We lost a special person, a special angel.”
But it looks like no matter how they write Brian out of the movie, the dedication to Paul Walker will live on doing what he loved best: working on cars and making people sit at the edge of their seats.
