The boxer is being sued for defamation stemming from a recent interview.
He might have just had one of the biggest fights of his life, but Floyd Mayweather might be headed towards another battle. According to CNN, the boxer is being sued by his ex-girlfriend for defamation after he said in a recent interview that she was on drugs during a domestic violence situation.
The boxer told Katie Couric just last month that his girlfriend was high during an altercation in 2010, and he was holding her back because he didn’t want her to hurt herself. He had been arrested in 2010 when authorities said that he punched Josie Harris during that very same altercation. She is now suing for $20 million dollars.
At the time, the fighter pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of misdemeanor battery and two counts of harassment. He served two months in jail.
Harris recounts the fight a little differently in her lawsuit: she says that Mayweather kicked and punched her while she was sleeping on the couch of their home.
Though he hasn’t responded to this set of claims, he did say previously that the claims were invalid because: “no pictures, just hearsay and allegations.” He then went on to say, “Did I kick, stomp, and beat someone? No, that didn’t happen. … Did I restrain a woman that was on drugs? Yes, I did. So if they say that’s domestic violence, then, you know what? I’m guilty. I’m guilty of restraining someone.”
Some fans of the fighter find it interesting that these claims are coming out now that he has won over $100 million in his most recent fight. We will keep you updated as more information becomes available.
