The Dark Knight III: The Master Race will be the final chapter of the series, completing the trilogy of Dark Knight Returns
Frank Miller is returning to Gotham city and coming up with a new miniseries The Dark Knight III: The Master Race. It will be the third and the final chapter of the Frank Miller’s classic comics Dark Knight Returns which he wrote thirty years ago.
DC Comics has announced Friday that the Dark Knight Returns is going to get another sequel – in the form of The Dark Knight III: The Final Race and it will be the “epic conclusion of the celebrated The Dark Knight Returns saga”.
“We are thrilled to have Frank back home at DC writing Batman,” The co-publishers of DC Comics announced. “The story he and Brain have crafted is an astounding and triumphant conclusion to this seminal body of work which influenced and shaped generations of readers and creators alike.”
The Batman Returns, heralded by TIME magazine as one of the 10 greatest graphic novels of all time, was originally published in 1986. It was followed up by a less seminal series “The Dark Knight Strikes Again”, released in 2001. The third and final series is expected to release sometime in the fall.
“Batman remains my favorite comic book hero and a sequel to Dark Knight is going to be daunting, but we’ll do our best.” Miller said in a press release.
The Dark Knight III will be a joint writing venture between Miller and comic book writer Brian Azzarello who is best known for his comic book Joker, crime series 100 Bullets and the relaunched series of Wonder Woman.
“It’s been an amazing experience collaborating with Frank these past six months. I think we have an epic story that these characters truly deserve.” Azzarello said.
No characters have been announced yet but looking at the teaser image released by DC Comics it can be figured out that Superman is going to be involved in it.
