This was so predictable. Disney announced today the sequel to Frozen.
Disney announced today Frozen 2. A Frozen sequel was as likely as Spring follows Winter. The company said at their annual meeting of shareholders that Frozen 2 is in development at Walt Disney Animation Studios with directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee and producer Peter Del Vecho. The same Oscar-winning team behind Frozen is back at it.
A release date and production details of Frozen 2 are still secret. Frozen is the highest grossing animated film of all time and has also entered the list of the top 10 biggest films of all time. Frozen marks Walt Disney Studios’ seventh billion-dollar release.
Frozen is the first billion-dollar film for Walt Disney Animation Studios and its first film to receive the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Frozen opened wide domestically on November 27, 2013. Released on digital on February 25, 2014 and on disc March 18, 2014, Frozen is the fastest-selling digital release ever and sold over 3.2 million Blu-ray/DVD units in its first day, putting it on track to be one of the biggest home entertainment sellers in a decade.
Disney had to do a Frozen 2 movie. There was no way around that. Disney has already done a new short film called Frozen Fever that will debut in theaters tomorrow as pre-show to Cinderella. Frozen Fever visits the Frozen characters a couple months after the movie ended. Anna has birthday and Elsa and Kristoff are preparing a birthday party. Things start to go wrong as Elsa catches a cold and her powers mess with the preparations.
