Goodfellas Cast celebrates 25th Anniversary at Tribeca Film Festival

‘Goodfellas’ cast celebrates its 25th anniversary with a special screening at the Tribeca Film Festival!

90’s film ‘Goodfellas’ one of the best gangster movies of all time recently celebrated its 25th anniversary at the Tribeca Film Festival. During the celebration a re-mastered version of the film was screened at the Beacon Theatre in New York City.

The special screening was attended by the original cast members and also served as a mini reunion. Robert DeNiro who is also the co-founder of the Tribeca Film Festival attended along with Paul Sorvino, Ray Liotta, Lorraine Bracco and Nicholas Pileggi the writer of the book ‘Wiseguy’ upon which the film was based. The only prominent member missing was the acclaimed director Martin Scorsese, who was busy filming his current film ‘Silence’.

Jon Stewart was appointed the moderator of the event and after the screening the cast took part in an open discussion. The stars all recalled and shared their experiences from the filming process of ‘Goodfellas’. Robert DeNiro revealed how emotionally and spiritually close to the cast he is even though 15 years have passed since they filmed together.

Liotta shared the director Scorsese apparently didn’t want him to meet the real life gangster Henry Hill he portrayed in ‘Goodfellas’. However after the film came out Liotta had the chance to meet the real Henry Hill and discovered to his surprise that Hill had loved his performance.

Pileggi went on to praise the director Scorsese as a perfectionist and share how the director was still unsatisfied with the final cut at the premier, even when everyone told him the time for editing was over. 

Sorvino was asked how he got into character for his role to which he answered he was initially going to quit three days before filming started because he didn’t believe he resembled a gangster. But then Sorvino saw himself in a mirror with a tie and even scared himself with the transformation.
