Google discontinues Quickoffice apps

So long, farewell, Quickoffice.

Google will discontinue Quickoffice from the Play Store and the App Store, the company said.

Google bought the office productivity service in 2012, with the goal of bringing Quickoffice to its Google Apps product suite. Quickoffice offered seamless interoperability with other popular file formats, and Google was impressed with its technology.

“Quickoffice has a strong base of users, and we look forward to supporting them while we work on an even more seamless, intuitive and integrated experience,” Google said a couple of years ago.

True enough, Google built a new productivity tool, and a year later, Google Docs was announced.

Quickoffice was eventually integrated into Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, and other Google Drive apps. The move has been expected, so today’s announcement isn’t surprising.  

“With the integration of Quickoffice into the Google Docs, Sheets and Slides apps, the Quickoffice app will be unpublished from Google Play and the App Store in the coming weeks. Existing users with the app can continue to use it, but no features will be added and new users will not be able to install the app,” Google said.
