Google Project Fi Data Service Unveiled

Google launches the rumored data only wireless service named Project Fi.

Google Project Fi costs $20 per month plus flat $10 per GB for cellular data while in the U.S. and abroad. The service includes all the basics (talk, text, Wi-Fi tethering, and international coverage in 120+ countries). Google Fi users get credit for the full value of your unused data. For instance a user buys 3GB for $30 and only uses 1.4GB one month. He gets $16 back.

Google Project Fi connects seamlessly between Wi-Fi hotspots  and specific 4G LTE networks powered by its partners Sprint and T-Mobile. 

Google offers a Project Fi Early Access Program, inviting people to sign up for the service. Project Fi will be available on the Nexus 6, which is the first smartphone that supports the hardware and software to work with the Google Fi service. Customers located in the Google Fi coverage are in the U.S. can request an invite at fi.google.com to get started. 

Google’s approach in Project Fi is intriguing. It could well be that this is a money making service depending on the habits of its users. The more they can be connected through Wi-Fi hotspots the lower the cost of service.
