Google Reportedly Announcing Photo Sharing and Storage Service at Google I/O

The new photo service will be a rehashed version of Google’s Photo app on Google+.

Google is reportedly launching an online photo sharing and storage service, reports Bloomberg. The said photo service will be an offshoot of Google+, the company’s social network, which has yet to prove its worth.

Google+ has a nifty photo sharing and storage service that allows unlimited photo uploads and instant photo effects that transforms images into GIFs, for example, on the fly. This photo service has been one of the most useful features of Google+ apart from Hangouts, Google’s messaging and video chat service.

The move was already expected. Earlier this year, Google Senior Vice President, Sundar Pichai, hinted that Photos and Hangouts could end up as separate products and outside Google+.

“I think increasingly you’ll see us focus on communications [Hangouts], photos, and the Google+ stream as three important areas, rather than being thought of as one area,” Pichai said.

Sources told Bloomberg that the new photo service will be announced at Google’s annual developer’s conference–Google I/O–in San Francisco later this month.

Details of the said service are still a mystery, but it will reportedly allow users to share images to social networks like Facebook and Twitter. Meanwhile, Google spokeswoman Katie Watson downplayed the report, saying that the technology company doesn’t comment on rumors or speculation.
