How I Met Your Mother stars Josh Radner and Mary Elizabeth Winstead will star in PBS drama series ‘Mercy Street’ produced by Ridley Scott!
The Ridley Scott executively produced drama ‘Mercy Street’ will be coming soon to the TV screen featuring Josh Radner and Mary Elizabeth Winstead. ‘Mercy Street’ was announced on Wednesday and is a civil war era drama from the network PBS. Other producers on the show consist of David W. Zucker, David Zabel and Lisa Q. Wolfinger.
‘Mercy Street’ will be the first American drama to air on the PBS network in over a decade and will consist of 6 episodes, according to Variety. Directors attached to the project are Roxann Dawson and Jeremy Webb.
Josh Radner the ‘How I Met Your Mother’ alum will be playing the role of a doctor by the name of Jedediah Foster the son of a wealthy Maryland Farmer. Foster will be a civilian surgeon who grew up in a privileged Southern Household that owned slaves.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead will play a nurse by the name of Mary Phinney an abolitionist from New England. While newcomer Hannah James will portray Emma Green another nurse who is a Confederate supporter who’s luxury family hotel has been turned into a hospital called Mansion House in Alexandria, Virginia.
The story of the series will follow the lives of both the nurses on opposite sides of the American Civil War. The period drama has been inspired by real life letters and memoir belonging to the volunteer nurses and doctors of the civil war era.
The General Manager at PBS Beth Hope shared it an honor for them to be showing a series based on the real life struggles and experiences of people during the war. The series will consist of a diverse range of characters and their dynamics such as union doctors, female volunteers, contraband laborers and Southern loyalists.
