The phone looks almost identical to last year’s flagship with the same display size and body
It seems like it has almost become a trend for smartphone manufacturers to have cheaper versions of their flagships so everyone can equally have a taste of the ‘latest’ in the market. Last year’s HTC One M8 now has its cheaper alternative too and is called the One M8s. You can hardly spot any difference just by looking at these two smartphones and the new M8s is almost similar to the original M8 particularly with the same 5-inch 1080p display and all-metal build. Looks like HTC itself is quite impressed with the M8 looks because first the M9 highly resembled the M8 and now the M8s too takes well from its predecessor.
The inside however is slightly different than the M8; the M8s features an eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor and instead of the 4-megapixel “UltraPixel” camera it sports the more conventional 13-megapixel sensor.
The phone features 2 GB RAM with 16GB of internal storage which is expandable through microSD support. If you look carefully, at 9.55mm the phone would appear to be a little thicker than the M8 which was 9.4mm thick. The M8s however retains the same weight at 160g. In addition to this, the HTC M8s is equipped with the company’s Sense 6.0 software along with Android 5.0 Lollipop. In comparison, the HTC M9 gets to enjoy the latest Sense Seven version.
The cheaper version of the M8 is going to be limited to Europe but HTC might decide upon extending the availability later on. The phone which will sell for £379.99 ($564) SIM-free in the UK is going to be available in silver, gold, and gunmetal gray.
