HTC Might See a Future in Mini Smartphones

  • HTC did not say it is not planning any more mini versions of its smartphones

HTC sees no future in mini smartphones but the company explained that it did not say that there would be no mini version of the One M9 flagship phone.

The Taiwanese company has first reportedly announced that there are no plans on downsizing the latest HTC One M9. The people now want phones with larger screens. No one wants to buy a small screen phone.

Jack Tong who is the president of HTC North Asia said that the company will end its lineup of mini products which was created almost 2 years ago. The small devices included the 4.3 inch HTC One mini which launched in July 2013 and the 4.5 inch HTC One mini 2 which launched in /4/2014.

He believes that the industry is moving towards new phones over 5 inches in size. He believes that it is best that they move with the industry and said that their future products would be larger devices.

Jack Tong said (via Focus Taiwan) that the company will be making larger devices on the launch of the HTC One M9+ on 14th May. The M9+ was released in the Taiwan market just after two months the HTC One M9 was released.

This new phone has a 5.2 inch screen. The phone has 2K display with resolution of 1400 * 2560 pixels. The phones has Media Tek Helio X10 octa-core 2.2GHz processor. The phone comes with 3 GB of RAM. You will get 32 GB of storage with this phone.

There is a fingerprint scanner which has been built into the home button on the front. According to HTC, the demand for HTC One M9+ is slightly better than the HTC One M9.

Now there is a lot of demand for this phone in India and China which are emerging markets. The company also launched the HTC One E9+. This is a dual sim phone with a 5.5 inch screen.

This is a cheaper version of the HTC One M9. The price for this device is around $494-658. Even cheaper devices have larger screens so there is no room for mini devices in the future.

However, HTC spokesperson Jeff Gordon explained HTC President of North Asia Jack Tong comments in an email to Phone Scoop. He wrote that Tong “did not say HTC is not planning any more mini versions of its phones.”

“To be clear, I’m not confirming HTC is coming out with an HTC One M9 mini,” added Gordon, “only that Jack Tong didn’t say what some press are attributing to him.”
