HTC will enter the wearable market in a big way and the HTC wearables will work with Apple iOS. Today specs leaked from HTC’s first wearable device with codename Petra.
Just last week I listened to HTC explaining their wearables strategy at the Wearable Technology Conference in Munich. While the HTC representative did not give any details about the upcoming HTC wearable products, he made it clear that HTC is very committed to wearables. The company sees the RE Camera as a pre-cursor and example of how they position HTC wearable gadgets along the HTC smartphones.
The wearables will have their own brand and identity. HTC will also make them work with all platforms and will not just support the operating systems they support on the HTC smartphones. This means the HTC wearables will work with iOS.
Today specifications leaked for the rumored HTC Petra wearable. upleaks posted specifications that reveal that the HTC Petra will not be an Android Wear wearable device. It will run on a Realtime OS developed by HTC.
Features of the HTC Petra include Alarm, Timer, Stopwatch, Music Control, Camera control, Sleep Analysis, Sports Analysis, Schedule, Weather and smartphone notifications.
Leaked specs include ST Micro STM32L151 CPU, 1.8-inch 32×160 PMOLED flexible display, Bluetooth, GPS, waterproof and battery lasts more than 3 days. There is also supposedly an accessory for the foot to track steps more accurately.
The HTC Petra is expected to ship in Q1 of 2015 in the US.
This wearable sounds like a versatile device that will be much more affordable than the Apple Watch. It will give current smartbands a run for their money.
