HTC’s struggle /4/be far from being over. Sales have declined in the past 12 quarters, falling behind rising star Xiaomi and long-time rival Lenovo. And with the launch of the iPhone 6 and Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4, HTC is now forced to think outside of the box. That means exploring potential markets, such as wearables and cameras.
That appears to be HTC’s playbook right now. According to Bloomberg, the Taiwanese company is now readying a new camera to compete against GoPro and Sony. Sources with knowledge of HTC’s plans said that the camera will be waterproof and will have a 16-megapixel sensor.
Furthermore, the camera is said to feature a wide-angle lens and a tube-shaped design. It’ll also support Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. More importantly, the camera will include mobile apps for Android and iOS.
As for HTC’s rumored smartwatch, the source said that the product has been delayed and will most likely come out next year. Perhaps the other good news is HTC’s upcoming smartphone that is reportedly optimized for “selfies.” HTC will hold an event in New York next month, the source added.
