Singer’s new song raises questions about her break up.
If you listen to Mariah Carey’s newest song, it looks like the time for playing nice between the singer and her ex-husband Nick Cannon is over.
The song, which is already gaining praise from fans and critics alike, shows a return to the beloved style she had in the 90s, and shows her anger over her divorce. “Infinity” debuted late Sunday night, and fans immediately took to Twitter and other social media to talk about whether or not the song was aimed at Nick.
“Why you mad?/Talking about you’re mad?/ Could it be that you just lost the best you ever had? … Name hold weight like kilos/ Boy you actin’ so corny like Fritos/ Wouldn’t have none of that without me, though,” she sings right off the bat in the first verse.
“Close the door / Lose the key / Leave my heart on the mat for me / I was yours / Eternally / There’s an end to infinity / To infinity,” she says throughout the chorus, it what is likely to be one of those songs you will hear constantly on the radio this summer.
Nick Cannon, who is most famous for his job as host of America’s Got Talent, just recently talked about the pair’s relationship: “You got to live life and take hardships and things like that as hurdles that were made to jump over,” he told ET’s Kevin Frazier. “If there’s no issues within yourself or within your own family, then what other people say on the outside really doesn’t matter.”
For now, Carey has only released a lyric video for her song. However, she is known for sprinkling little clues throughout her music videos that hint at the true meaning of the song. See if you can read between the lines below:
