- Jessica Lange returns to perform on Broadway!
Jessica Lange will be acting in a play in a revival of Eugene O’Neill’s Long Day’s Journey Into Night after a whole decade passed of performing on stage.
Two times Oscar winner, the 66 years old actress, is appearing in a revival of the play Long Day’s Journey into the night revived for Broadway by Eugene O’Neil. Jessica will be appearing on stage after a whole decade, when her last performance was Tennessee Williams’ play The Glass Menagerie alongside Sarah Paulson, Christian Slater and Josh Lucas.
This was Lange’s second Broadway performance in 2005 and before that she did another Tennessee Williams’ by the name of ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’ alongside Alec Baldwin in 1992
If one would be wondering what she has been doing, American Horror Story fans recognize her as Fiona Goode. She has been a regular on the series and most people would have forgotten all about her movie career.
She has won two Oscars, one for her role as an Actress in a Leading Role alongside Tommy Lee Jones in the movie, Big Sky and the other for her Best Supporting Actress role in Tootsie alongside Dustin Hoffman. She won the prestigious Olivier Award for her performance in the role in a production in London’s West End in 2000.
Her role on American Horror Story has been met with a lot of praise and galore and the actress is still considered to be an acting diva.
Now, she would be reprising the role of Mary Tyrone, a morphine-addicted matriarch, a role she is familiar with as it is loosely based on O’Neil’s own mother. Irish actor Gabriel Byrne, 65, will be starring opposite her in the play’s revival as her on-stage husband James Tyrone.
The play is being produced by the American Horror Story producer Ryan Murphy. Her return to Broadway is a part of the a special 50th anniversary season for the Roundabout Theatre Company.
Jessica Lange return was announced on Tuesday and production will be beginning shortly. The play will open in May, 2016 for previews while it will officially release for premiere on April 19th.
