April Fools’ Day is awful says comedian John Oliver in web exclusive of HBO’s Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. John Oliver asks viewers to take the Last Week Tonight No-Prank Pledge.
April Fools’ Day is coming up Wednesday. This means we will be inundated with fake news stories, fake product launches and people around the world get pranked by friends and family.
John Oliver, host of HBO’s Last Week Tonight, hates April Fools’ Day and calls on viewers to take the Last Week Tonight No-Prank Pledge. We agree and support the no-prank pledge full heartedly. We especially invite Google to take the pledge and skip their antics of fake product announcements this year.
John Oliver pranks the audience saying that FDR invented April Fools’ Day in 1934 as a way to raise national morale during the depression – April Fool! The origin of April Fools’ Day can be found in the middle-ages according to Wikipedia.
Last Week Tonight No-Prank Pledge: “I solemnly swear that on this April Fools’ Day, I will not post a fake engagement photo on Facebook like some kind of asshole. Nor will i perpetuate a celebrity death hoax, because that makes people sad. In fact I will not play any practical jokes.
And if I see someone planning a prank, I will tell them: Hey, you’re being a dick right now. Stop being a Dick. Stop being a Dick. Seriously, stop being a Dick.”
John Oliver concludes the funny bit with the real meaning of April Fools’ Day: “Oh shit, I really have to do my taxes.” April 15 is last day to file taxes.
Last Week Tonight with John Oliver will be back next Sunday. Yesterday there was no new show.
