The actor is returning to the sequel alongside the directors and writer of the original film
It has been officially confirmed now that Keanu Reeves will return for the sequel of 2014 action thriller film “John Wick”, alongside David Leitch and Chad Stahelski, the joint directors and Derek Kolstad, the writer from the first film.
“With such tremendous fan and critical support for ‘John Wick,’ we knew that there was still so much more of this story to tell. We are thrilled that Keanu, David and Chad have re-teamed with us and promise to bring audiences even more excitement the second time around.” Lionsgate’s exec Jason Constantine said in a press release.
“John Wick” premiered on 2014, turned out to be a critically and commercially successful, grossing $79 million worldwide and doing it on a small budget of $20 million. In the original film, Keanu Reeves played the title role of John Wick, a former hit man who is seeking vengeance for losing a gift received from his wife posthumously. The sequel’s one-liner plot synopsis is “In the follow up to the last year’s adrenaline-fueled revenge and redemption thriller, legendary hit man John Wick is back.” It suggests that the sequel will be as equally exiting and thrilling as the one before.
John Wick 2 also marks Keanu’s third film with Lionsgate Entertainment in recent years. Lionsgate was also the distributor of Keanu Reeves’ last film “Knock, Knock” which was released in January 2015. David Leitch and Chad Stahelski are selected for the direction of the sequel as well. The pair also made their directorial debut with the film “John Wick.
Accoridng to Hollywood Reporter, the sequel will be released through the Liongate’s Summit Entertainment and will be produced by the Basil Iwanyk, who produced the first film as well. No further information regarding the remainder of the cast, release date and production timetable has been announced yet.
