LG Display Co. showed off in Korea an OLED Display that sticks to the wall like a wallpaper reports Korean YonHap. The 55-inch OLED panel is only 0.97 mm thin and weighs 1.9kg. It can slapped on a wall with a magnetic mat.
In the 0.97mm thin OLED display panel is definitely no space for the electronics. There is a box somewhere. LG Display’s currently available 55-inch OLED panel that is 4.3 mm thick.
It looks like OLED is very promising to make ultra-thin displays. The advantage of OLED is that there is no backlight necessary. Now LG just needs to figure out how to make them affordable.
Yeo Sang-deog, the head of LG Display’s OLED division, vowed to ramp up OLED production from the third quarter of this year to a substantial level that can meet clients’ demand.
“We should be able to supply a satisfactory volume to our clients from July or August, which means we’re hoping to buckle down production as well as promotion from the third quarter,” he told reporters at a press conference held after the event.
