Melissa is happy about her success in St. Vincent’s and that success is anticipated to get bigger in Ghostbusters 3 which is going to be an all-female cast.
Melissa McCarthy’s new movie St. Vincent just opened at the Toronto International Film Festival. Melissa says she was nervous about the movie and hoped at the start that the audience would be kind to the movie. It seems that they were kind and even impressed because they gave the movie a standing ovation at the end of it.
The response made Melissa tear up a little bit. She explained that she was not entirely sure when she read the script. The story is about a single mom. She leaves her son with her drunk, weird neighbor played by Bill Murray to go to work. The boy is taken to strip clubs and horse tracks while he is left with the neighbor.
Melissa admits that being a mother of two girls, she judged her character in the movie. She said that she found it hard to believe that a mother would leave her child with a drunk. Those reservations about the character were gone as she worked on the movie. She said she learned that she should not judge people.
We don’t know the life stories of the people we pass on the street. Her character taught her that people’s lives are their own and they have their own problems to deal with. People have their own choices to make and their own ways to deal with problems.
She said that to represent the social aspect of the movie in a comedic way was amazing. She loved the movie, she loved working in it and watching it made her realize that that was why she made movies. Melissa had acted in soaps first like Gilmore Girls and Parks and Recreations.
She delivered her debut performance in movies in the Hollywood hit film Bridesmaid. Her performance earned her an Oscar nomination. She followed up with The Heat alongside Sandra Bullock. Sandra was adamant to say that Melissa was the kind of person you have to watch out for while opening your mouth because she is so spontaneous.
She has also starred in The Identity Thief and Tammy. It is a sure fact that Melissa’s comedy timing is impeccable which makes her one of the best comedic actors today. Melissa admits that she was never interested in acting. She grew up in Illinois and that made her think that she might never make it as an actor. She rejected the idea completely and concentrated on being a fashion designer.
She was good at it and she moved to New York to pursue a fashion career. She made costumes and loved the work but didn’t like the actors she dressed. One of her friends asked her to do stand up at a club because she was great at telling jokes. She said she killed it and that was when she decided to be a comedian.
We are glad that Melissa made the career change because she is a definite shoo-in for the new Ghostbusters movie. Ghostbusters 3 is going to be directed by Paul Feig who also directed Bridesmaids and The Heat. He is the veteran for female comedies and we can’t wait for him to work on Ghostbusters.
Melissa McCarthy is definitely a candidate for the lead role because of her amazing history working with Paul. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that the two have a professional understanding to make great movies. It would be exciting to see who would be cast along Melissa to work on the movie.
There is a great selection to choose from including Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Mindy Kaling, Aubrey Plaza, Wanda Skyes, Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson and Jennifer Lawrence (being very hopeful). It would be interesting to see who would be the male eye-candy for the movie.
The guys are expected to be funny so Will Arnett, Bill Hader, Tony Hale, Chris Pratt, Dylan Moran and Julian Barratt are probable to be Feig’s choices but we never know who might end up in the movie. Jane Lynch should be signed immediately to play the evil villain in the movie. All in all, we cannot wait for the amazing movie to come out.
