Here is a detailed explanation of the HTC’s 8.9 inch tablet
We have been hearing about HTC’s 8.9″ Nexus tablet Volantis since the first quarter of this year and today we have got some more information on this new product which should no more be treated as a rumor and the good news is that we have also got our hands on a picture too.
Moving on to the specs, the 8.9 inch tablet is going to sport a 2048×1440 resolution display with a NVIDIA Logan 64-bit processor (Tegra K1). It has a 2 GB RAM and two options for internal storages of 16 GB and 32 GB. The camera setup is also pretty impressive with an 8MP OIS main camera and a 3MP front facing camera. The Volantis has a 8.91″x5.98″x0.31″ body which can be compared to the 2013 Nexus 7 which is 0.34″ thick, and weighs 290g or the Samsung’s new Galaxy Tab S 8.4 which is a svelte 0.26″ thick, weighing in at 298g. So the HCT offering is pretty much heavier and thicker.
The disappointing bit is the absence of the HTC’s now signature front-facing stereo speakers and as opposed to the claims, the casing (which resembles the soft touch back of the current Nexus 7) doesn’t exactly look like an aluminum zero-gap construction. For now we know that the tablet is planned to start at $399 for the 16GB and $499 for the 32 GB. The LTE version would obviously cost more and would wind up at about $600.
