Motorola chief says the company is on its way to becoming one of the major players

Under Lenovo Motorola sold more than 10 million smartphones – an impressive 118% increase year-on-year.

The last quarter was Motorola’s first as a Lenovo company and it managed to sell more than 10 million smartphones which shows quite an impressive year on year increase of 118%. After having Motorola fall under its umbrella, Lenovo appears to be positive that it can make the Motorola brand profitable once again and it has estimated that it would only require 4 to 6 more quarters to put it back on the track where it would be safe. One of the most important things Lenovo has on its sleeves at the moment is to increase the global presence of Motorola and the return to the Chinese market is the first step in this direction.

Motorola’s Moto G, Moto X and Moto X Pro are going to be launched in the Chinese market and it appears rather possible that the Moto X would become highly popular in the country. In the midst of all these hopes of climbing up the ladder, Motorola is obviously going to be surrounded with intense competition from Apple and Samsung and in the Chinese market, Xiaomi can prove to be a fierce competitor too. However, COO Rick Osterloh is fully motivated that the company is on its way to becoming as important as all the other larger players in the industry.

“Every seven years, the person who’s been on top of the market has gone away. We are going through one of those fascinating shifts where people are starting to realize that you don’t need to pay $600 for a top-tier phone to get a top-tier experience,” said Rick Osterloh.
