- California gets a shaky New Year with an Earthquake.
5.1 magnitude earthquake in Northern California originated near Ferndale and could be felt across the cost. And it is the biggest earthquake of 2015.
California coastline is prone to earthquakes but its not earthquake season right now. Looks like the Californians greeted the New Year with a shaky start as an earthquake of 5.1 magnitude was reported from Northern California earlier on Thursday as reported by U.S. Geological Survey.
The earthquake occurred early in the morning at 4.16 a.m. The epicenter of the earthquake was in the Pacific Ocean approximately 70 miles west of Ferndale.
It was felt as far as Fort Bragg which is about 120 miles south of Ferndale. The people reported that they felt the earthquake. It is said to be one of the greatest earthquake to hit California this year but not to panic as the year is young and we can all hope that this was the first and the last earthquake in a while to hit California.
As long as Ferndale is concerned, the local authorities reported that the earthquake was felt but no damage occurred and no lives were lost.
