Reports about Apple Watch Supply Constraint are Expected

New report from Asia says that the Apple Watch is suffering production issues and Apple is supposed to have cut orders in half. These supply constraint reports appear ahead of each new Apple product release. The seldom have merit.

The Apple Watch will go on sale on April 24. A month ahead of the launch the timing is right for some supply constraints. Taiwanese UDN steps up and delivers a scary report about Apple having severe issues withe AMOLED display yield and cutting monthly volume in half. Before you grab your tent and head out now to an Apple Store, consider that these reports have tradition. 

Ahead every new Apple product launch there are reports about supply issues. It turns out that in most cases the issue is not of technological nature but of underestimated demand or production capacity limits. UDN claims that Apple has planned to produce 3 million Apple Watch units per month and has cut them down to 1.5 million. Apple has of course not revealed any of these numbers. 

There is a lot of guessing going on here. Meanwhile Apple Insider has a new report that cites a source that says that Apple has yield issues, but they are not new and not a surprise for Apple. The company is dealing with these issues.

Apple is using for the first time an OLED display in a device. Albeit this is not official, but most experts believe that the display inside the Apple Watch is a flexible AMOLED display.

The Apple Watch starts at $349 for the small case (38mm) Sport Edition. The Apple Watch Pre-order starts on April 10 in 9 countries (Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, the UK and the US) and the Apple Watch ships on April 24.
