RIP Richard Glatzer: Writer and Director of ‘Still Alice’

Richard Glatzer was the co-writer and the co-director of the ever so popular Still Alice movie and now he has passed away at 63.

The writer and director of the movie which was based on Alzheimer’s disease, has passed away. He was suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. He passed away on Tuesday when he was at his home in LA.

At the end of his days, he wasn’t able to talk freely. He slurred his words and it showed us how serious his condition was. He had this degenerative disease of the nervous system and even then he made a movie with his husband Wash Westmoreland.

Both of them started work on the movie in 2011. Richard was first diagnosed with the disease in 2013. The movie is based on an Ivy League professor who had early-onset Alzheimer’s disease.

Richard told The New York Times that it was difficult for him to read the novel it was based on. He said, once he finished with the novel, he knew that he had to make a movie based on it. Richard Glatzer used to come on the set of the movie.

He wasn’t able to speak and he also wasn’t able to use his hand but he kept on coming back to the set. He used to communicate with the cast and the crew using an iPad. He used to use a finger to write messages and then he used the text to speech app to convey his messages.

Then when he wasn’t able to use his hand, he started typing with his big toe. He said in an interview last year that he felt very heard by everyone, every day. When the film was released, every critic appreciated the film and they liked it very much.

Julianne Moore won the Academy Award for the best actress last month for playing Alice. Richard Glatzer watched the ceremony from his bed in the hospital as he was being treated for a respiratory problem. He and his husband also made The Fluffer and The Last of Robin Hood movies. Richard Glatzer was great man and a really good director. /4/his soul rest in peace.
