A new report out of Korea says that the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge are off to a hot start and enroute to beat previous Galaxy smartphone sales numbers.
Samsung hopes to land a big success with the new Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge smartphones launched on Friday, April 10th. Samsung launched the new flagship smartphones that got glowing reviews on the same day Apple started the pre-order of the Apple Watch. This has though now slowed down momentum.
A source of the Korea Times says: “The two new phones are drawing impressive responses. Samsung aims to ship 10 million S6s and S6 Edges in 26 days after the devices’ global launch. That target is achievable.”
The pre-orders for the two Galaxy S6 phones is supposed to pass 20 million. Samsung has not yet revealed any sales numbers, but if the source is correct the company will soon announce the successful launch.
The source also said that the Galaxy S6 Edge with the curved screen is the hottest seller. This seems to be true mostly in Asia. The side displays are seen as gimmick in reviews from US based journalists.
The report says that in Korea, Samsung’s home market, the Galaxy S6 is sold out and carriers tell customers to come back at the earliest on Friday to order one. The stores are scrambling to get Galaxy S6 Edge inventory.
Apple is giving Samsung room to sell the new Galaxy S6 until the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus are ready to hit back this fall. If Apple can again match Samsung as top smartphone manufacturer in the crucial Q4 of 2015 remains to be seen. The Galaxy S6 is much stronger than the S5 and larger screen sizes of the iPhones introduced last year will not be a new thing this Fall.
Samsung has raised the bar when it comes to the display, with the Quad HD Super AMOLED display with the 577ppi, which is even better than the Note 4, which is just amazing. The home key also acts as the fingerprint sensor and is larger than the Note 4 and Galaxy S5. Samsung is ready to take on Apple Pay with its Samsung Pay feature, which uses NFC and Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) for mobile payments, and this fingerprint sensor will play an important part in integrating it.
Talking about the processor, we already knew Samsung has skipped the Snapdragon 810 processor for their home-baked Exynos 7420 chip and Mali-T760 GPU bundled with 3Gb of RAM. Not to forget that the HTC One M9 uses Snapdragon 810 with 3GB of RAM.
The battery on the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge is non-replaceable which is not a norm for Samsung phones. Many users will be disappointed by this, but Samsung has introduced a Fast Charging feature and claims that 10 minutes of charge will give you enough juice to use your phone for 4 hours which is great. The Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge also come with wireless charging out of box to compensate for the non-removable battery.
The Galaxy S6 is powered by a 2,550 mAh battery while the S6 Edge has a 2,600 mAh battery. Coming to the Camera, it’s a 16 MP rear camera with optical image stabilization and phase detection autofocus supporting 4K video along with a 5MP front facing camera. Samsung claims it to be much better than the class leading iPhone 6 Plus camera and compared some pictures and videos shot from the iPhone 6 Plus and the Galaxy S6.
