Samsung‘s glory days /4/be coming to an end, writes Peter Burrows of Bloomberg. It’s a bold claim, but it carries some weight. Apple is poised to reveal what the tech industry has been waiting: a bigger iPhone. For years, Samsung didn’t have any strong competition in the “phablet” market – a key factor that made the company the top smartphone manufacturer in the world, in terms of sales.
If Apple will introduce a 5.5-inch iPhone, that competitive advantage will disappear. Gene Munster, a reliable Piper Jaffray analyst, said, “Samsung has had a few years with no real competition on larger form-factor phones, and that’s where they’ve been able to run the table on Apple. Now that competitive advantage is going to simply disappear.”
Size is just one factor. Bloomberg’s Burrows added that Apple’s reported partnership with Visa, MasterCard, and American Express for a new payments system for the iPhone 6 could potentially turn the tables in favor of the Cupertino-based company.
That’s not all, Apple’s first wearable, dubbed the iWatch, could also threaten Samsung’s wearable business. Burrows also cites Apple’s corporate ambitions and the company’s recent efforts to woe developers as factors.

Samsung recently unveiled its next-generation Galaxy Note 4 and Note Edge. Interestingly, Samsung went metal with the Note 4 and Note Edge, shunning critics who criticized the company’s mediocre design. But will it be enough? We can’t say for sure. After all, their fate lies in our hands.
