Shonda Rhimes is Sorry for McDreamy’s death in Grey’s Anatomy

Shonda Rhimes expresses sorrow on McDreamy’s departure from ‘Grey’s Anatomy’!

In one of the most tragic events on the show Dr. Derek Shepherd aka McDreamy died in Thursday’s episode of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’. The death of McDreamy marks the exit of Patrick Dempsey from the show and leaves the character of Meredith a widow. 

The creator of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Shonda Rhimes expressed her sorrow on the loss of a very strong character in a statement. Rhimes stated the character of Derek Shepherd will always remain an incredibly important character for the show, the fans and for Rhimes herself, as she had never imagined she will have to say goodbye to ‘McDreamy’.

Dempsey’s portrayal of Derek Shepherd shaped the character in such a way it became a very meaningful example of what a modern woman should expect from love. The loss of McDreamy will be felt by all as Meredith and the entire Grey’s Anatomy family will be entering a new era and everyone will have to enter a new chapter in life.

According to Rhimes the possibilities for further character developments are endless and as Ellis Grey once stated the carousel never stops turning.

“Derek Shepherd is and will always be an incredibly important character — for Meredith, for me and for the fans. I absolutely never imagined saying goodbye to our ‘McDreamy.’ Patrick Dempsey’s performance shaped Derek in a way that I know we both hope became a meaningful example — happy, sad, romantic, painful and always true — of what young women should demand from modern love. His loss will be felt by all. Now, Meredith and the entire Grey’s Anatomy family are about to enter uncharted territory as we head into this new chapter of her life. The possibilities for what /4/come are endless. As Ellis Grey would say: the carousel never stops turning.”

Patrick Dempsey also recently stated his time on the show had been a remarkable ride and the impact his character had was extraordinary. Dempsey exclaimed he is truly humbled and grateful to the fans for the experience. 

The network ABC also issued a statement to TVLine on Dempsey’s departure from the show. The statement explained Dempsey is moving on for other interests after 11 years on the show. The character of Dr.
