Sony unveiled the stainless steel edition of the SmartWatch 3 at the CES 2015. Now it hits stores around the world.
Sony releases the Sony SmartWatch 3 Stainless Steel edition world-wide starting this week. The Sony SmartWatch 3 runs on Android Wear. In 2014 720,000 Android Wear units have been sold according to analyst Canalys. It is hard to say how Android Wear devices will sell once the Apple Watch is out in April.
The Sony SmartWatch 3 has a stylish look and tries to win consumers with the built-in GPS that allows for tracking without smartphone. Sony has not revealed the price yet for the Sony SmartWatch 3 stainless steel edition. The plastic version has a regular price of $249.99. We expect that Sony will charge 349.99 for the Sony SmartWatch 3 Stainless Steel edition, which is the same price as for the entry model of the Apple Watch.
The Sony SmartWatch 3 runs Android Wear 4.3 on a Quad ARM A7 CPU with 1.2Ghz, 512MB RAM and 4GB storage. The sensor portfolio includes accelerometer, ambient light sensor, compass, Gyro and GPS. The 45g weighing smartwatch has a 1. The connectivity features include Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and Micro USB. The SmartWatch 3 can be controlled with voice, touch and gestures. Sony says the battery lasts 2 days with normal use.
Android Wear 4.3 offers direct access to information and notifications on your wrist. You can directly respond to message via voice on the smartwatch. It also offers the common fitness tracking features. The Android Wear operating system supports apps enabling services like Lyft to be used directly from the wrist.
Sony is bundling the new Sony SmartWatch 3 Stainless Steel with vouchers for six months exclusive access to the popular task management app Todoist Premium.
Sony will also launch soon a modular SmartWatch 3 holder kit. The kit allows to customize SmartWatch 3 with any 24mm watch strap, but will also be available with either brown or black leather strap options.
